A group of drama students from St George Girls High School will get to show off their acting skills in front of a big crowd in February – after being chosen for OnStage.
OnStage is an annual event showcasing the best HSC drama performances from the previous year.
The big event will be held at Seymour Centre in Chippendale from February 3-9.
The group from St George Girls High School wowed their HSC markers in August with their performance titled Twice a Daily, Daily Paper.
Student Eleni Carydis said they had to create a stage performance between 10 and 12 minutes long which focused on an issue of their choice.
“Our piece is focused on environmental issues but it is done quite absurdly. We use absurdism as a technique,” she said.
“We pretended to be a newspaper corporation just trying to sell more newspapers.”
The group also includes Serina Wu, Grace Zheng, Ziggi Zikmann and school captain Una Alterac.
Eleni said they had a lot of fun working on their performance. “It was probably the most fun thing we had to do for the HSC.”
She said they were surprised to hear the news this month they had been selected for OnStage.
Eleni thanked drama teacher Lisa Wright for all her help. “Ms Wright helped us quite a bit – she was brilliant the whole way.”
Ms Wright congratulated the girls for being chosen for OnStage.
“We are very proud of their success in being selected for OnStage but we are equally proud of what wonderful people they have all become.
“It has been a privilege over the last five years to be a part of their learning and to watch them develop into such capable and independent young women.”
The OnStage event is presented by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA).
