Georges River Council is undertaking a review of the Kogarah CBD Alcohol Free Zone.
The proposed Alcohol Free Zone would apply from January ,1 2018 until August 28, 2018.
A further extension will be sought after this date to extend the Kogarah CBD Alcohol Free Zone so it is in line with Georges River Council’s other Alcohol Free Zones.
The current Kogarah CBD Alcohol Free Zone expires on December 31, 2017.
The proposed Alcohol Free Zone would apply to all council owned land that is bounded by:
Gray Street (corner Princes Highway and Railway Parade)
Railway Parade (corner Gray Street and Gladstone Street)
Gladstone Street (corner Railway Parade and Princes Highway)
Princes Highway (corner Gray Street and Gladstone Street).
Under the provisions of Section 644 of the Local Government Act 1993 Council has the power to create Alcohol Free Zones along public roads and in public car parks.
There are currently Alcohol Free Zones located in the Hurstville CBD, Oatley shopping centre and surrounding streets, Penshurst shopping centre, Riverwood town centre and Kogarah CBD.
The Alcohol Free Zones are in operation 24 hours a day and prohibits the consumption of alcohol at any time within these zones.
The Kogarah CBD Alcohol Free Zone will not restrict outdoor dining licences where council approval has been granted.
