The Salvation Army is hoping to brighten up the festive season for those less fortunate and is encouraging other people to do the same.
The organisation is gearing up for its busiest time of the year with Operation Christmas Cheer in full swing ready to provide toys and food for those in need.
In the lead up to Christmas there will also be special Christmas Eve and Christmas Day services, a Christmas luncheon, and community carols.
Rockdale Salvation Army officer, Major Paul Kinder encouraged people to get into the festive spirit and give back.
“Christmas can be a challenging and lonely time for some, and we don’t want anyone to have to go it alone,’’ he said.
“Through the incredible generosity of our local community, we were able to assist many families and individuals in need last year.
“We will need all hands on deck this Christmas, so join us and give hope where it’s needed most. Whether it’s by donating or volunteering just a few hours of your time, you can make a meaningful difference and bring comfort and joy to Aussies doing it tough.”
Donations of new quality toys can be made through the Kmart Wishing Tree or dropped off at Rockdale Salvation Army.
Rockdale Salvation Army will also be accepting donations of non-perishable food items.
A Carols by Morning Light service will be held at Menai Salvation Army on the December 10 from 9:30am followed by a Christmas lunch.
There will be Christmas Eve services at Rockdale and Menai and a Christmas Day service at Menai.
