The Russian National Ballet Theatre returns to Sutherland Entertainment Centre to perform The Nutcracker on Tuesday, December 5 at 7pm.
Their return follows their success of their Swan Lake Australian tour last year.
Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker is a Christmas tradition with some of the most instantly recognisable pieces of classical music including Waltz of the Flowers, and Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.
The company was founded in 1989 as the Moscow Festival Ballet under the direction of Sergei Radchenko of the Bolshoi Ballet.
Since then it has toured many countries. It was decided to create an extra troupe, the Russian National Ballet Theatre under the direction of Bolshoi soloist Elena Radchenko.
Each company tours as a smaller group, because of of our goals is to reach audiences in smaller places, not just large cities.
Elena and Sergei Radchenko have said the objective of the group is, “To stimulate modern viewer interest and need for the art of Russian classical ballet is the main task of our team.”
Among their new productions are ballets of the classical repertory, Swan Lake, Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, Don Quixote, Giselle, Romeo and Juliet, a gala concert, as well as contemporary ballets composed by Mozart, Bach, Ravel and other composers.
