The Australian Labor Party (ALP) has claimed victory in the 2017 Queensland Election.
ALP State Secretary Evan Moorhead congratulated Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and her team of candidates on running a “strong campaign”.
Here is the full statement from Moorhead.
"I want to thank every member of the Labor campaign team for our victory in the 2017 state election.
Congratulations to Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and her team of candidates on a strong campaign, focus on the choices for Queensland's future rather than backroom deals.
Thousands of volunteers across Queensland have worked hard, promoting our Labor story, because we know only Labor government can put Queenslanders first.
Labor has secured 43 seats and is the only party who can form majority government.
Of the remaining 13 seats in doubt, we need to win 4 seats for a Labor majority. We are leading in 6 of these seats and very close in five further seats.
We're confident that as counting continues, Labor will confirm a majority in the Queensland Parliament.
Our campaign has also kept One Nation from the balance of power in the Queensland Parliament. From the outset of this campaign, Annastacia Palaszczuk and Labor have made it clear that Queensland should never be beholden to the chaos of an LNP-ONP majority.
Our principled decision to put One Nation Last has rescued the LNP in regional Queensland, where their vote collapsed.
This election, Queenslanders have repudiated the shady LNP and One Nation preference and supported our campaign for Queensland's future."
On Saturday night, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk was confident of retaining power, but said a final result would take days to be realised.
