Blakehurst Public School is rapt to have taken part in its first Schools Spectacular – joining in with thousands of other students who performed their hearts out at the annual event.

The event was held on Friday and Saturday inside a packed Qudos Bank Arena at Sydney's Olympic Park across four shows.

It featured the best performers from public schools in NSW and ACT including thousands of dancers, singers and musicians.

Schools in St George and the Sutherland Shire were well represented this year.

Blakehurst Public School teacher Lisa Wheeler said their students had a blast.

“It has been a great experience for the Blakehurst children, being the first kids to be doing this for the school,” she said.

“I couldn’t be prouder of the kids as they have stepped up to what has been a very busy time.”

More than 5700 performers took part in the event this year.

The feature performers included 44 solo singers and 145 dancers.

In terms of sheer size, scale and scope, the Schools Spectacular is unequaled with an additional 2700-strong choir, 2300 dancers, an 80-piece symphony orchestra and a world-class stage band.

Schools Spectacular executive producer Jane Simmons said every performer should be thrilled by their achievement.

"Schools Spectacular this year was absolutely wonderful," Ms Simmons said.

"It was our biggest show ever. Our expectations were high and everyone hit the mark."

The show will be edited and televised on Channel Seven on December 16.
