The $120 million St Patrick’s Green aged care facility in Kogarah is ready to open its doors next week following completion of the facility.
The aged care and retirement village includes three buildings with the tallest towering 12 storeys above Chapel St, adjacent to St George Hospital.
Residents will begin moving in on Monday and it will cater for over 200 residents at capacity.
St Patrick’s Green includes 105 independent living units as well as a 92-suite residential aged care home.
St Patrick’s Green general manager Andrea Riviere said the facility looked fantastic and they were excited to welcome the residents. She said an interesting feature of the new facility was a cognitive house for dementia residents.
“It is straight from the 60s,” she said. “It has cladding on the outside and the kitchen is from the 50s and 60s. It will be a place to provide person-centred dementia care but also provide activities.”
She said the nearby St Patrick’s school and church made for a nice community. “The opportunity for community is a big thing for us with our relationship with the church and the school.”
The facility also boasts a courtyard, cafe area, lounges and dining rooms, a theatre, hair salon and gym.
While parking is at a premium in the area, Ms Riviere said they had two levels of underground parking and had more than met the ratio of residents to car parks required by council.
The huge facility was built by Brookfield Multiplex and construction spanned just over a year, with handover taking place last Thursday.
Multiplex regional managing director NSW David Ghannoum said it was a great facility for the elderly.
“We are delighted to have partnered with Greengate on this project to provide the local ageing population with an impressive blend of essential care and quality lifestyle facilities.”
Multiplex recently completed the nearby Acute Services Building at St George Hospital, which was the biggest stage of the hospital’s $277 million upgrade.
