Oatley resident Belle Goodacre celebrated birthday last week by attending her regular game of bingo.

Belle turned 100 on Wednesday,  November 29 and decided that she wanted to spend the day as she does other Wednesday, playing bingo at Club Central Hurstville.

Belle visits the club at least one once but usually twice a week to play bingo with her daughter Carol, catching the bus to Mortdale and a train to get to the Club.

She rarely uses a walking aid, doesn’t need glasses and has no trouble keeping up with the bingo calling.

Belle attended Alexandria Primary School and while at high school organised a school walk across the soon-to-be-opened Harbour Bridge in 1932.

She worked at Winns Department Store in Redfern and Darlinghurst up until she married George.

She was an avid ice-skater and also played vigoro for the Red Robins in the 1930s.

Belle has two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

One of Belle’s favourite hobbies was dancing and she used to come to Club Central’s predecessor, the Illawarra Catholic Club in Hurstville, for new vogue dancing.

She still loves to garden and takes walks around Oatley, popping up to the shops to get her essentials as well as going out to dinner with her friends.

Belle took up Bingo many years ago after her doctor told her that it would be good for her eyes and brain. She’s proven him right and has even outlasted him.

Club Central celebrated Belle’s 100th birthday this year with a special cake, candles and birthday song for all her bingo friends.

Club Central CEO Mike Walker and all her bingo friends signed a special birthday card for her and gathered to sing happy birthday and watch her cut the cake.

Belle was in luck on her birthday and won two games of Bingo.
