Photos & Video: Shire groups will perform at nightly Christmas lights show at St Mary's Cathedral

Two Sutherland Shire choirs will sing at this year’s spectacular free light and sound shows in St Mary’s Cathedral Square.

Lights of Christmas, which started in 2010, will be held every night from tonight (Wednesday, December 6) until Christmas Day.

Choirs will sing Christmas carols from 7.30pm, and the sound and light show celebrating the season of peace, joy and goodwill, will illuminate the 75 metre façade of the cathedral at 8.30pm and continue through until midnight.

Engadine-based Cantabile Quartet will sing on Friday, December 8, and Wednesday, December 20, from 7.30pm to 8.30pm.

Jannali-based Endeavour Harmony Choir will perform on Sunday, December 17, from 7.30pm to 8.30pm.

AGB Events is staging the shows, which organisers say have become Sydney’s most popular Christmas lights show.

“This year’s show will be split into three segments, each taking the viewer on a journey,” a spokeswoman said.

“The first segment will be a visual feast of Christmas decoration images created from the cathedral’s own stained glass windows and motifs in the crypt.

“The second segment, titled The Gift of Time, will focus on the theme of being present, and paying attention to the people around you to share valuable time together at Christmas.

“In this animated story, we will follow our lead character, Griffin, taking the audience through a journey that will demonstrate the importance of putting down technology devices and taking time to appreciate your surroundings, your friends, and your family.

“It will be beautifully created with an artist’s animations and an original soundtrack.

“The final segment of the show will be a series of Madonna and Child artworks featuring three old masters paintings and other masterpieces.

“This will also include images used in past years, which have been showcased on Australia Post’s 2017 Christmas stamp.”
