Woronora Memorial Park invites the community to celebrate the festive season at their annual Christmas Carols concert this Saturday, December 9 starting at 6.30pm.
Held in conjunction with White Lady Funerals Sutherland, Christmas Carols in the Memorial Park allows families and friends from the community to share in the spirit of Christmas under the stars.
“The audience will be treated to a variety of carols, led by the ‘The Christmas Crackers’ band,’’ Woronora Memorial Park chief executive officer Graham Boyd said.
“Many children took the opportunity to dance while singing along with the ‘Christmas Crackers’ last year.
“This year at Woronora Memorial Park there might even be a special visit from Santa.”
The evening will include face-painting, balloon animals, free sausage sizzle, as well as colouring in activities for children of all ages to participate.
“Families who attend are welcome to bring a picnic blanket, we will provide chairs, and relax and enjoy a picnic on the lawn while listening to the angelic voices of the ‘Christmas Crackers’ as they take full advantage of traditional Christmas Carols,” Mr Boyd said.
In support of this community event, a non-compulsory gold coin donation for a candle or carols booklet will be given to Anglicare Toys ‘n’ Tucker Christmas Appeal. Gift suggestions can include non-perishable food items, or children’s toys in original packaging.
This will help provide food and gifts for those who would otherwise go without at Christmas.
“Christmas is a special time for every family. A member of the community said that she had been looking for a reason to come back to the cemetery after losing a loved one and our Carols fill this void,” Mr Boyd said.
“For some families, the joy of Christmas can be tinged with sadness. Many families who have experienced the pain of losing a loved one seek solace each Christmas by visiting loved ones at their place of rest, often sharing the experience with other families and friends.
“The staff and I find comfort in knowing that the carols within our grounds provide a time and place for families to be part of an important community activity.”
All members of the community are invited to attend Woronora Memorial Park’s Annual Christmas Carols this Saturday at 6:30pm.
