Our Lady Star of the Sea principal Rosemary Andre had a vision early in 2017.
She believed that ‘‘every child should have the experience of being part of a school musical once in their lives’’.
Under the direction of Anne-Marie McAdams (music and creative Arts teacher) that dream was brought to life for the Miranda primary school last week.
The musical extravaganza of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat was the culmination of many months of rehearsals that included all 452 students and the associate parish priest!
It was a celebration of many gifts and talents that included students, parents, teachers and the whole community uniting together that resulted in an outstanding production.
This biblical story of Joseph had the audience enthralled and swaying in their seats from beginning to end.
The contemporary production gave a modern edge to the tale of a young man, (Year 5 student Jeoff Ramos) sold into slavery in Egypt by his jealous brothers.
Sold to Potiphar (Frosia Gorskikh - Year 5) Egypt’s most influential leader Joseph appeared to be doomed.
As the performance was beautiful narrated by (Maddi Simpson - learning support officer) each class played a key role in unpacking Joseph’s journey to becoming a revered figure.
The powerful Elvis inspired Pharaoh, played by associate parish priest Rev Father Dan McCaughan raised the roof with his powerful rendition Song of the King.
The energetic dance troupe were choreographed by teachers Nicole Sheridan and Daniela Burland.
It was evident through the excitement and joy that the students exhibited that the experience of starring in a musical was truly a unique opportunity that will be treasured.
Director Anne-Marie McAdams was thrilled with the production.
‘‘What a spectacular show,’’ Ms McAdams said.
‘‘Such a community effort. Thanks to staff, parents and students for such fabulous co- operation!’’
Parent feedback resonates Mrs Andre’s earlier vision and Mrs McAdams talents.
‘‘To all the staff, teachers, coaches, parent helpers and assistants I would just like to say what an amazing night I had last night, could not believe what I was seeing, so uplifting,’’ said Pat Cafe.
‘‘I could not believe these were primary school children, I do not think I would see any better at a professional show. Children were so enthusiastic even the very youngest.
‘‘Last of all Father Dan he was just unbelievable, was a great example to all of us, he showed us he is a human being like the rest of us.
“The show certainly lived up to its name amazing!’’.
