The newest release in the Star Wars blockbuster film series, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, will screen with open captions this Sunday at GU Film House in Cronulla.
The cinema has worked with Vinnies Ability Links and members of the deaf community to make the cinema experience more inclusive and accessible.
Michael Doran, an Ability Linker with St Vincent de Paul Society NSW, said open captioning of movies supports people who are deaf or hard of hearing and people acquiring English as an additional language.
“GU Film House Cronulla regularly hosts open captioned screenings as well as sensory screenings,” Mr Doran said.
“These sessions provide a way in which all members of the community can participate in the fun experience of simply enjoying the cinema.
“There’s no reason why certain members of our community should miss out on this part of mainstream culture.”
Ability Links is a free NSW State Government initiative desgined to promote inclusivity in the community.
