The NSW coastline will once again play host to the Vissla NSW Pro Surf Series when four World Surf League Qualifying Series events kick off this month.
Once again Surfing NSW has joined forces with the NSW Government, through its tourism and major events agency Destination NSW, Vissla, World Surf League and NBN to bring four QS1,000 rated events back to Maroubra, Cabarita, Avoca and Boomerang Beach.
Surfing NSW CEO Luke Madden said that the four-event series has become one of the benchmark events on the Surfing NSW calendar.
“Over the last two years the Vissla NSW Pro Surf Series has become one of Surfing NSW’s key assets and it’s a series we want to continue to see growing,” Madden said.
The Carve Pro, the one closest to home for Cronulla surfers, will take place at Maroubra Beach from January 18-21.
Two hundred of the most promising male and female surfers from Australia and internationally will compete in the event.
Cronulla surfer and Carve director Matt Whyte said the event had gone from strength to strength over the last few years and was looking forward to a big 2018.
Shane Campbell was Cronulla’s highest ranked WQS surfer last year finishing at number 94 and is using this series as a springboard to the worlds bigger events.
Well the surf cant have been any worse over the last week,1-2 feet everyday ,if you were lucky there was the odd little pulse but its a real summer swell pattern that has set in.
Swellnet says Friday will be the pick of the short term conditions with next week showing plenty of promise.
A late southerly will give us a minor increase in short range swell today but late Thursday will be your best time to aim for a surf with Friday morning the safest chance at maximising this 2-3ft south swell.

Two Lay day’s were called on Day 5/6 of the waiting period at the 2017 Jeep World Junior Championship in Kiama. Small surf has continued on Australia's East coast but an increase in swell today has it back on track and should see it run through to finals.
When competition resumes we will see title hopeful Finn McGill (HAW) take on fellow Hawaiian Ocean Macedo (HAW)-who beat Aussie title favourite Reef Heazlewood in the 2nd round- in Heat 7 of Men's Round Three.
In the womens,Aussie reigning Women's World Junior Champion Macy Callaghan will come up against fellow Australian Alyssa Lock and American hopeful Kirra Pinkerton (USA) in Heat 2 of Round Three.
They are getting to the pointy end of the event and want to make sure they allow competitors the best opportunity in the best waves during the event window, which has been plagued by small surf-The 2017 WSL Jeep World Junior Championship will be held from January 4 - 12, 2018.
Meanwhile in QLD,the Flight Centre Burleigh Pro Surf Festival is back again in 2018 and is set to be bigger than ever, promising four days of surfing and entertainment. Queensland’s only World Surf League Qualifying Series event will feature a festival style set up over the Australia Day long weekend as crowds flock to one of Australia’s most iconic point breaks,and hopefully get some waves.
