Police have charged a man with murder following the death of a man in Hurstville on Saturday.
On arrival, officers from St George Local Area Command located the body of a 56-year-old Klaus Petr who had been stabbed twice in the chest.
His alleged attacker, 29-year-old Brian Lee, had left the scene and made his way to a Hurstville house occupied by his brother who called police.
Brian Lee, 29, was arrested at the house and taken to Kogarah Police Station where he was charged with the murder of Mr Petr.
Ann Petr said she was finding it difficult to come to terms with the death of her husband of 25 years.
“Very hard. I never think [anything] like this [could] happen to him,” Mrs Petr told 7News.
Mr Petr, an Australia Post worker, had been on his way home after a night shift in Rookwood when he was murdered.
“I just feel shocked,” Mrs Petr said. “I don’t know, I just feel shocked.”
She said her husband was generous, honest and hard-working and a good father to their son.
Mr Petr worked five nights a week and would always catch the train back to Hurstville at the end of his shift.
He had been sitting in the small park near the station eating his breakfast and reading at the time of the unprovoked attack.
“He very good person, he very quiet,” Mrs Petr said.
“He not get involved to anyone because he like to be peace by himself.”
Brian Lee briefly appeared in Parramatta Local Court this morning charged with murder.
He did not apply for bail and it was formally refused. He is due back in court in March.
