Crowds flocked to Cronulla on Friday to enjoy the glorious summer weather.
Cronulla beach, which was reduced in size because of preparations for Australia Day, was packed.
Some parents took their children to the rock pools, where waves were breaking over the walls, while the playground in Cronulla Park was also popular.
Perhaps nobody was enjoying the weather more than Hanna Dmytriieva and Julia Shikova, who have come from one of the the coldest parts of the world to make a new home in Sutherland Shire.
Ms Shikova, mother of Anastasia, 2, and Gregory, 13 months, has been living at Kirrawee for three years, while Ms Dmytriieva has been living in Gymea for 10 months.
“It's a great place to live,” Ms Dmytriieva said.
“Even the worst weather here is better than in the Ukraine.”
Most of the beach-goers photographed by the Leader were from Sutherland Shire and St George, but others were from suburbs such as Newington and Middleton Grange (the former Hoxton Park Airport site).
Nina Mirarchi, of Middleton Grange, who was enjoying the waves with her children Marissa, 7, and Giovanni, 5, said Cronulla was always her family’s favourite beach when she was growing up in the Liverpool area.
“Now we have our own family, we still love coming here,” she said.
