Cronulla lifeguards will compete against their Bondi counterparts in a gruelling 30 kilometre challenge that includes swimming, rescue board paddling and running.
The “battle of the beaches” will show who has the fittest team, but the main aim is to raise funds for new equipment at the Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick.
Sutherland Shire and Waverley council lifeguards will compete individually and as teams in the event on Sunday, February 11.
It will start just after 6am at Bondi.
The course is:
- Bondi – Bronte: board paddle, 2km.
- Bronte – Coogee: beach: run, 3.5km.
- Coogee – Maroubra: board paddle, 4km.
- Maroubra – Frenchman’s Beach: run, 6km.
- Frenchman’s Beach – Kurnell: board paddle, 2km.
- Kurnell – Boat Harbour: run, 4km.
- Boat Harbour – North Cronulla: sand run, 5km.
- North Cronulla – Cronulla: swim, 5km.
Sutherland Shire mayor Carmelo Pesce said it was “fantastic” the two councils were joining forces for such a great cause.
“The doctors, nurses and support staff of Sydney Children’s Hospital are absolutely phenomenal and we want to be able to help them in any way we can to continue the great work they do,” he said.
