Geoffrey Thoroughgood has earned a 2018 Australia Day honour for his service to sporting organisations and the community.
Mr Thoroughgood was honoured with a Medal of the Order of Australia for his work with the Men of League Foundation where he is a director and chairman of the welfare committee as well as the company secretary and treasurer.
The Foundation provides assistance with everything from surgery, rehabilitation, equipment and specialist care to wellbeing visits to homes and hospitals to address social isolation and promote mental health for former players, referees, administrators and volunteers and their families.
Mr Thoroughgood has also had a long-standing association with cricket. He was made a life member of the Georges River Penshurst Cricket Association where he was treasurer for 12 years and an honorary auditor for 15 years. He was also a player and volunteer coach.
Mr Thoroughgood has also been the honorary treasurer of the Carbine Club NSW since 2007 and was on the finance committee at the St George District Cricket Club.
He has also been a financial and fundraising supporter of the Trish MS Research Foundation since 2002 and was a former committee member.
