Ready to teach, Kogarah Public School opened its gates to excited pupils this week to mark the first day of a new school year.
Barton MP Linda Burney and shadow education minister Tanya Plibersek were there on Wednesday to welcome pupils back into their classrooms.
They met with the school captains and observed year 1 work with numbers in challenging maths activities.
Ms Plibersek also spoke about her concerns to federal funding cuts in education.
She said schools in the electorate will miss out on about $21 million, including $400,000 at Kogarah Public School over 2018 and 2018.
“[It] means fewer teachers [and] less one-on-one attention for our children,” she said.
“We live in an increasingly changing world and economy.
“All parents and all Australians want our children to be best skilled and best equipped to meet the challenges of the future.
“This means well-funded and well-resourced schools and educators so that schools and teachers, like the teachers here at Kogarah Public School can deliver a world class education for our children.”
