The One Billion Rising Open Air Dance Festival was held at Kogarah Town Square this afternoon.
Hosted by Kogarah Community Services, the event is part of an annual international creative dance protest to say "no" to violence against women.
The dance festival is supported by Georges River Council.
Georges River Council Mayor Kevin Greene said the festival is a dynamic and positive movement to end violence towards women.
“One billion women and girls globally will experience violence in their lifetime,” Cr Greene said.
“This festival harnesses the creative energy of our community to reject violence in all its forms,” he said.
“This is an issue that affects our community and council recognises its role in raising awareness across all cultures, socio-economic backgrounds and ages in the Georges River area.”
“Council recently established an annual Georges River White Ribbon Walk and support for One Billion Rising complements the message behind this walk.”
More than 100 people attended the event which included dances from around the world, including swing, Zumba, bachata, kung-fu, samba and Bollywood.
A Flash Mob performance of the official choreography for the One Billion Rising song, Break the Chain closed the close the event lead by the council’s mascot, Georgie the Dragon.
