NSW drew first blood at the 2018 Team Navy ASRL Open at Elouera beach today when they won the coveted Australian state team relay over rivals Queensland.
Neck and neck for the first crews Queensland falted and capsized returning to the beach and NSW punished them leading at every change.
The other states made up the numbers as NSW put it all on the line almost falling when the Nth Cronulla u23 women's crew had the beach on its feet when almost losing their sweep on their return to the beach.
The new cyclone swell arrived just in time to test the 320 surf boat crews from all over Australia on the first day of competition.
Conditions are forecast to be testing over the three days of the surf boat carnival with the Australia New Zealand Test series to begin tomorrow.
