Officers from the South/South West Sector of the Police Transport Command conducted a high-visibility operation across the southern rail network yesterday.
Between 2pm and 10pm on Sunday, more than 20 police were deployed to patrol trains and railway stations between Cronulla and Wolli Creek, targeting alcohol related crime, anti-social behaviour and transport related offences.
Across the afternoon, officers arrested a total of eight people, including two women aged 18 and 20, at Miranda Railway Station, for breaching their bail conditions.
They were arrested and taken to Sutherland Police Station where they were refused bail to appear at Sutherland Local Court.
A 17-year-old youth was arrested by officers at Sutherland Railway Station for malicious damage. Police will allege they caught him applying graffiti to a wall. He was charged and will appear in a Children's Court next month.
Officers also issued 36 transport infringements and issued five traffic infringements.
Inspector Craig James from the Police Transport Command said the operation was a success and will run again during the warmer months of the year.
"We see an increase of people using our rail network during weekend heading towards our beaches. We want to make sure everyone using the network is able to do so safely."
