Daniel Fallins’ incredible summer continued on Friday when he was named to make his Sheffield Shield debut for NSW.
The 21-year-old Sutherland leg spinner was included in the Blues’ XI for their Shield clash with South Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground which started on Friday.
NSW captain Peter Nevill won the toss and elected to bat, with St George trio Trent Copeland, Moises Henriques and Kurtis Patterson also in the Blues XI.
NSW were bowled out for 256, with Fallins making six not out batting at nine.
It was then his chance to shine with the ball with Fallins picking up his first Shield wicket, dismissing Joe Mennie caught and bowled for five.
He then bowled Tom Andrews (50) before having Daniel Worrall stumped by Nevill to finish with figures of 3-51 from his nine overs.
Fallins made 10 in the Blues’ second innings as they were bowled out for 213. He also picked up the wicket of Redbacks’ opener John Dalton, again stumped by Nevill, as South Australia successfully chased 189 for victory on Monday.
Fallins has already had a summer to remember. He made his first class debut for the Cricket Australia XI in a pair of four-day tour matches against England in November. In the day-night warm up match at the Adelaide Oval he took his maiden first class five-wicket haul with the wicket of England No.3 James Vince in his first over – before dismissing England captain Joe Root.
The Sutherland first grader also made his Big Bash League debut for the Melbourne Stars last month.
