A four-hour limit in the Sutherland Leisure Centre car park, which was designed to stop commuter parking, has been declared a success.
Sutherland Shire Council introduced the restriction in October, 2017.
A report by council staff said the objectives were to make the car park available to patrons of the Leisure Centre and ensure safe facilities for families, parents with prams and the elderly.
The report said, as a following the change, centre users had sufficient car parking spaces during the morning and early afternoon periods without the need to use the unsealed overflow parking areas, south of the centre.
“Observations during the peak parking demand, which generally occurs after 3pm on school days, have revealed only a handful of car spaces vacant in the main car park,” the report said.
“Most [leisure centre] customers now have an easy and convenient all weather access to the entrance of the centre.”
The report said only one complaint was received from employees, and only one from the public.
“It should be noted that the restriction has only been in place for two and a half months and been enforced for two months,” the report said.
“Conditions will continue to be monitored, but in relation to achieving objectives it is considered a success.”
