The Miranda Musical Society’s latest production tells a tale as old as time.
The Disney classic Beauty and the Beast will play at the Sutherland Entertainment Centre from March 21 to 25.
The show is also full of local talent. Shire favourite Gavin Leahy stars as the Beast, the society’s president Tim Dennis from Kirrawee plays Belle’s father, Maurice. While Engadine’s Nathan Farrow plays Cogsworth, to name a few.
The sets even have their roots in the shire, having been conceived by director Garth Saville and constructed by master set builder Bob Peet from Sylvania.
Along with the lavish costumes and an orchestra under the baton of Valerie Hull, this classic musical is filled with charming characters and production numbers which come to life with favourites including Be Our Guest, Gaston, and the Tony award-winning titular song, Beauty and the Beast, sure be a big hit with families of all ages.
As the tale goes, Belle, a bright and beautiful book-lover with an adventurous heart is living in a small French town with her beloved father when she is captured and imprisoned by a mysterious Beast in his enchanted castle.
There, she learns of a wandering enchantress who cursed a vain prince who must now learn to love and be loved in return. Befriending talking clocks and candlesticks, chipped teacups, and dancing feather dusters, Belle learns to look past all that meets the eye as she and the Beast form an unlikely friendship.
“This production will have all the magical elements and stunning costumes associated with the show and I really want the audience to connect with the wonderfully warm and lovable characters,” Saville said.
Sylvania Choreographer Tracey Blankenship has put the ensemble cast to work on the massive dance numbers.
“I’m so proud of how hard everyone is working. The energy at rehearsals is incredible,” she said.
Hull said the production promised to deliver a “magical tale for the whole family, with amazing characters singing and dancing in equally amazing costumes towards an enchanting ending. What’s not to love?”
