St Mark’s Anglican Church, South Hurstville has been awarded $8000 funding under the Federal Government’s Stronger Communities Grants Program to improve accessibility to the church’s pre-school and church hall.
The works include a new pathway to the church’s preschool with dual security gates to ensure the safety of children.
“Access to the community space and pre-school has been difficult for members of the church and the wider community who utilise these facilities,so “I’m pleased to see work under way,” Banks MP David Coleman said.
A number of community groups currently meet in the hall, including a craft group and book club, but the Church community anticipate the improved access will allow more community organisations to utilise the space.
Step free access to the Preschool will allow parents with prams and young children to access the facility more easily.
Banks MP David Coleman met with the Rector of St Mark’s, Reverend Peter Greenwood recently to discuss the upgrades.
“These upgrades will benefit the wider South Hurstville community, including St Mark’s Preschool,” Mr Greenwood said.
“We would like to as many people as possible having access to our facilities. Having step-free access to our lower hall makes this possible.
“Having a new pathway to our Preschool with dual security gates, means that we can ensure the safety of the children in our Preschool.”
St Mark’s Anglican Church is located at The Mall, South Hurstville, and has been open to the community since 1919. The onsite preschool was established in 1970.
