A dog off-leash area in Lance Studdert Reserve, Kyeemah has taken a step closer with Bayside Council agreeing to embark on a community consultation program on the proposal.
The council also suggested that a proposed time for operation of 4pm to 10am for the off-leash area at Kyeemagh Beach be included in the consultation.
Bayside Councillor Ed McDougall put forward a motion at late last year calling on the council to investigate the option of introducing dog-friendly areas at Lance Studdert Reserve at Kyeemagh and Lady Robinsons Beach in Monterey.
“We have more than eight kilometres of beach along Botany Bay - I believe we can afford to provide a couple of hundred metres of that for dog-owners,” he said at the time.
"We have more and more families living in apartments now, I think this is just part of the recreational mix that Bayside Council should be supporting across the area."
In 2014 the former Rockdale Council investigated off-leash areas at Kyeemagh, Sans Souci and Cook Park, however the plan didn’t go ahead.
If the latest proposal is approved after the community consultation, the council said the implementation of the off-leash dog area form part of the 2018-19 Capital Works Program.
