Attendees of the Chinese Australian Services Society (CASS) Care Hua Kang Seniors Group Chinese New Year celebrations were treated to a traditional Chinese dance performance at the Senior Citizens and Community Centre in Hurstville, on Thursday.
Members of the seniors group and their family and friends were joined in the celebrations by CASS Care Executive Director Henry Pan, Barton MP Linda Burney, Kogarah MP Chris Minns.
The seniors group, which meets every Thursday and Friday morning, performed a traditional Chinese dance and attendees were also treated to traditional Chinese ‘red-packets’ known as hóngbāo, a gesture of good luck and well wishes.
CASS Care delivers a range of community services for clients from a culturally and linguistically diverse background, including aged care.
“Chinese New Year is a wonderful time of the year for family to get together”, Mr Pan said.
“Groups like these are really important in engaging our older citizens from a linguistically
diverse background,” said Ms Burney. “It’s great that CASS Care could bring our older citizens together with their families for this special occasion.”
