A public meeting at which residents can have their say about the first stage of the F6 motorway project will be held at Moorefield Bowling and Sports Club on Saturday, March 3.
The meeting, which is scheduled to start at 2pm, is being organised jointly by two community groups, the Moorefield Estate F6 Committee and F6 Action.
Politicians and public transport advocates will also speak about the state government’s proposal to build the first stage of the extension from the M5 East at Arncliffe to President Avenue, Kogarah.
I just can’t get my head around the fact they intend to build a tunnel and dump all the traffic on to President Avenue.
- Anne Field, of the Moorefield Estate F6 Committee
Moorefield Estate F6 Committee spokeswoman Anne Field said they hoped for a good turnout after letter-boxing homes along the F6 corridor from Brighton-Le-Sands to Sans Souci.
Ms Field said the fact the meeting was just 12 months out from the next state election added extra weight.
”I just can’t get my head around the fact they intend to build a tunnel and dump all the traffic on to President Avenue,” she said.
“They seem to have no understanding or concern for the residents in this area.
“The announcement has caused a great deal of stress for many people.
“Real estate agents have told me they are getting increasing inquiries from people looking at selling properties.
“Some homes could become almost unsel-able.”
The Department of Planning and Environment has issued environmental requirements to Roads and Maritime Services, which applied late last year for the project to be considered as State Significant Infrastructure.
The Secretary’s Environmental Assessment Requirements (SEARS), which are standard for such applications, establish the subject matter that must be addressed and responded to in the environmental impact statement.
RMS says the first stage of the F6 motorway extension will bypass up to 23 sets of traffic lights and take up to 2000 trucks off the road each day between Arncliffe and Kogarah.
Reduced traffic congestion on Princes Highway and The Grand Parade, and an improved “amenity of the foreshore precinct are other touted benefits.
