Sutherland Shire Council has declared the Walk the Walls street art festival at Caringbah a great success.
The council estimated more than 5000 people from the shire and many other areas of Sydney attended the three-day event at which an ugly precinct was transformed with colour and vibrancy.
Many people were till converging on the area on Monday and Caringbah businesses are joining together tomorrow (Thursday) to show support for the work and call for it to be extended.
“The response from the community, people of all ages, has been overwhelmingly positive,” Mayor, Carmelo Pesce said.
“I’m still buzzing. I was there on Friday and Saturday and the artistic talent on display was amazing.
“People were stopping me to say how much they loved the idea, that the art was fantastic and that they really appreciated the effort of the council.
“It wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the NSW Government, and I want to congratulate the artists on their contribution to our community.”
The festival atmosphere saw visitors stay till about 11pm each night, enjoying the food, music and night-art spectacle.
