Re: “Bayside's bailout” (Leader, February 21). Bayside Council simply does not have the accounting and financial management skills to manage the finances of the merged councils.
All councils in NSW are required to release their audited financial statements for the year ended on Jue 30, 2017 by November 17 and yet after nine months, Bayside are still unable to complete their accounts for audit by the Auditor-General's Office.
Both Botany Bay and Rockdale Councils were known for corruption and misuse of funds and even if they are successful in obtaining the $17 million compensation now asked for, ratepayers are doubtful whether the money can be put to good use.
