Bayside Council has announced its program of free events for Youth Week, April 16 to 24.
Basketball clinics, a live music concert, public speaking workshops, a graphic novel fair and a virtual reality 3D painting workshop are the highlights of the program.
The events are aimed at giving local young people the chance to express themselves.
“Our National Youth Week program is a great opportunity for young people to express their ideas on issues that affect their lives while enjoying a number of activities,” Bayside Council mayor Bill Saravinovski said.
“Council also provides many opportunities throughout the year for young people.”
The Bayside Youth Week festivities kick off with Park Fest on Monday, April 16 at the PCYC and Rowland Park, Daceyville from 10am to 4pm.
There will be live music and performances, soccer, basketball and volleyball; zombie special FX makeup session followed by a zombie race, boxing and fitness circuits; a giant jenga; relay challenges, and a barbecue.
A Better than TED workshop for high school students who want to excel at public speaking will be held at Rockdale Library on Thursday, April 19, from 9.30pm to 12.30pm.

The PCYC Basketball Clinic will be held on Friday, April 20 from 10am to 12pm at McCarthy Reserve, 9 Ador Avenue, Rockdale.

Your Room is Your Canvas is the title of a virtual reality 3D painting workshop using ‘Tilt Brush’ by Google, will be held at Rockdale Library, on Monday, April 23 from 2pm to 3:30pm.

A Graphic Novel Selection Fair will be held on Tuesday, April 24, At Rockdale Library from 10am to 4pm.
Participants can browse through the latest comics and graphic novels and select their favourites for the library’s collection.
