Shavers, clippers and scissors at the ready, Engadine High School has gone the snip – and its efforts have placed it at the 5th highest fundraising team in Australia.
The World’s Greatest Shave, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, is the school’s biggest charity event.
Whether for a friends, family member of stranger, students and staff braved a hairless future for a worthy cause.
The school has raised more than $40,000 so far – making it the top shaver in NSW.
Kirrawee High School is positioned in 13th place, with more than $25,000 raised for The Leukaemia Foundation.
More than 60 students from Engadine High contributed their locks to the cause, while remembering a former senior student who died of cancer last year.
Deputy principal, Nathan Redmayne, says the result is unbelievable.
“We have broken the all-time fundraising record for our school,” he said.
“We embrace and commit to this big day every year but this year there was a special emotional connection.”
Year 12 led a social media campaign by creating a video to promote the big shave.
“Greatest Shave is always important, but we knew we had to make this one extra special, and it was,” school captain, Owen Sloggett, said.
“This was our moment to stand up and speak out for what’s important,” fellow student, Tahlia Munro said.
All money raised goes towards the Leukaemia Foundation for blood cancer research.
More than 60,000 Australians are living with blood cancer or related disorders.
An Australian loses their life to blood cancer every two hours – more lives than breast cancer and melanoma.
Hairdressers from C&S House of Styles salon at Engadine were at the school to help on the day.
