Support for the shire’s major charity event, Sutherland Relay for Life, is set to pick up pace, as the annual fundraiser approaches.
Whether you’re a part participant or a newcomer to the event, the community is encouraged to register its interest this year.
The 17th Sutherland Shire Relay For Life is on May 5-6 at Don Lucas Reserve, Wanda Beach, Cronulla.
Relay For Life is the world’s largest movement against cancer and is hosted in 26 countries.
The Sutherland relay offers the community the chance to join forces in support of everyone affected by cancer, have fun at a community festival for a great cause, and raise vital funds for Cancer Council NSW.
Over the past 16 years, it has raised nearly $6 million for Cancer Council’s research, prevention and support programs.
Whether participating individually or in a team of 10-15 people, members of the community of all ages are invited to get together and walk or run for a cancer-free future.
The aim is to try to keep one team member walking or running on the track at all times.
There will also be live music, food, games, activities and a night under the stars.
To kick things off there will be an information night from 7pm-9pm on April 4 at Tradies Gymea.
This is an opportunity to chat with past participants and the volunteer organising committee, plus learn more about what to expect at this year’s event.
The organising committee will be taking registrations, campsite and banquet bookings, nominations for the Shelley Wood award, and handing out raffle books.
