The Shire International Short Film Festival has a program of short films from around the world never seen before in the Sutherland Shire.
Curated by Cinewest artistic director, Vahid Vahed, the festival will screen at the Sutherland Entertainment Centre on March 28.
The Shire International Short Film Festival was conceived in 2009 and is a partnership project between Cinewest and Sutherland Shire Council.
The festival selection committee consists of retired film, television and radio patrons who reside in the shire.
Held during Senior Citizens’ Week, the festival attracts thousands of audience members of all ages.
Films to be feature in this year’s program include:
Registrar (Russia 2016): A marriage officer in civil registry office is an extremely romantic person. She isn't married and dreams of Prince Charming. But everything has changed when she caught an act of treason by a newlywed. She can't stand what she's just seen and takes the plunge for a last-ditch move. What will this lead to is the matter of fate, accident or a fairy tale's end.
The Robbery (Spain 2017): What kind of protocol is established in the robbery of a bar when two robbers coincide? The one who arrives first? The most needy? The economic crisis is lurking and life-long robbers have to deal with a new model of robber, people without proper preparation and training. But for everything there is a first time. Hands up. This is a robbery. Well, two robberies.
In the Heart of Vivianne Gauthier (Canada 2017): ‘‘No regrets’’, says Vivianne Gauthier sat in her ‘‘ginger bread house’’ in Port-au-Prince where she's living for more than 80 years. Strong, energetic, disciplined and singular, this dance choreographer and teacher has built her life on her own way, becoming an emblematic figure of Haitian culture. This movie is a portrait of an amazing woman.
Adila (Spain 2016): Faysal is a Young man of Arab-descent, who along with his friend Abdul, is about to make the most difficult decision in his life in a plane. But in the last minute, he suffers a panic attack and starts to have second thoughts.
Somersault Pike (Australia 2016): Dark fears and high hope drive a young competitive as she faced the ten-metre platform.
