Kidney Health Week (March 5-11) is a reminder about raising awareness of kidney disease, of which symptoms are often silent.
Kidney-related disease kills more Australians each year than breast cancer, prostate cancer and road accidents combined. It affects 4.1 million Australians.
One in three Australians are at risk of chronic kidney disease, but less than 10 per cent of those are aware they have the condition.
Early detection can slow progression of kidney disease by 50 per cent.
Currently 11, 231 patients are on the waitlist for kidney transplant. A total of 53 Australians die every day from kidney-health related diseases.
