Lugarno school student Kyliric Masella, 13, has been nominated in the 2018 Logie Awards.
Kyliric has been nominated for the Graham Kennedy Silver Logie for Best New Talent for her lead role as Fuzzy Mac in the new children’s TV series, Grace Beside Me, which premiered in February this year.
This is the first major acting role for the Year 8 student.
Prior to this she had appeared on Saturday Disney and Nickelodeon.
With cultural ties to the Dharumbal Aboriginal people of Central Queensland and to Tonga, Kyliric was born and raised in Sydney and has been performing since an early age.
Affectionately known as Kiki by her family, she started training at age two-years at Brent Street Performing Arts. She can also speak German, her grandfather’s native tongue.
Her sister, Mi-kaisha is a singer-songwriter and has appeared on The Voice Kids and the X-factor.
Proud mum, Kristy, said Kyliric is a natural singer and dancer and only came to acting about 18 months ago.
“She’s a very talented dancer and a good singer but this was her first acting audition and she got the job,” Kristy said.
“She’s a very funny, charismatic and carefree girl.”
Kristy added that her daughter has a work ethic next to none.
“Her career aspirations include being the lead dancer for Bangarra, studying performance at Juilliard in New York and gracing the screens of Hollywood blockbuster films.”
In 2017, she was offered the lead role in the children’s TV series, Grace Beside Me, as the strong-willed and mystical, Fuzzy Mac - a unique Indigenous girl with special powers who is grappling with growing up in two worlds.
Grace Beside Me was co-commissioned by NITV and ABC ME. It has already featured on many of the Disney Channel programs, so Kyliric’s performance as Fuzzy Mac will also feature on Disney Channel around the globe.
Grace Beside Me is on NITV (Channel 34) on Fridays at 7.30pm. The series also screens on SBS on Demand.
Voting is now open for the 2018 Logies and ends Sunday, April 1.
