Tim Tams, Barbecue Shapes, Anzac Biscuits and Vegemite tubes are among items being sought by Engadine RSL Sub Branch for care packs to be enjoyed on Anzac Day by Australian troops in Northern Iraq.
The sub-branch has set a target of making up 300 packs, a big increase on the 55 they sent last year to troops deployed in Kabul.
The deadline for donations is March 29, to ensure the packs can be prepared over Easter and sent in time for the troops to receive them for Anzac Day.
Heathcote MP Lee Evans thanked sub branch members and presented a $400 state government grant to help.
Sub branch secretary Brad Copelin said the community, including schools in the area, were supporting the project, but more donations were needed.
Mr Copelin said sub branch members could attest to the positive effect care packs had on the morale of the troops serving overseas.
Items being sought are:
- Tim Tams
- BBQ Shapes etc
- Chips - multi packs
- Anzac and other biscuits
- Coffee and tea bags
- Chewing gum and lollies
- Tubes of Vegemite
- Chocolate bars
Items can be dropped off at Engadine RSL Club or the Heathcote Electorate Office, shops 1 and 2, 17-23 Station Street Engadine.
Mr Evans said the Engadine-Heathcote community had a proud history of military service, and it was important to continue to honour past and present servicemen and women, and provide support when possible.
