Cronulla’s Emma Hoyle is bringing a bit of Sutherland Shire spirit to the Tathra community this Easter, after the loss of her relative’s house.
Ms Hoyle, 26, is helping her aunty and her family recover after a bushfire tore through their coastal community.
Their house was one of the 69 lost in the March 18 fire.
Her aunt, Karen Urquart, a ex-shire resident, moved to Tathra about 25 years ago.
“Kaz is a shire girl through and through,” Ms Hoyle said.
“She grew up at Como and played netball and basketball for the shire, and her kids go to Wollongong University.
“This cause hits so close to home.
“She lost everything. She was incredibly lucky to have gotten away in time.
“We’ve been inundated with messages from everyone here who knew them.”
Ms Hoyle and her cousin Lauren Gosbell have launched a fundraising page for her relatives, to help them re-build their lives.
They have raised more than $12,000.
“This campaign is being driven by so many of our incredible family members,” she said.
“We are going to support them in any way we can and help keep their spirits up.
“So many families are going through the same thing, but even though they are displaced, they are banding together.”
