Public open space around Oyster Bay Oval will expand through the acquisition of an adjoining home.
Sutherland Shire Council agreed to purchase the property at 100 Como Road after being approached following the owner’s recent death.
A council report said the property was zoned for open space and was one of a number earmarked for purchase under the Section 94 Development Contribution Plan 2016, to increase open space at Oyster Bay Oval.
“As this land is listed in the Sutherland Shire Local Environmental Plan 2015, council has a statutory obligation to acquire this property,” the report said.
“Section 94 funds are held in trust for this purpose.”
The report said the council has been attempting to acquire the property for some time.
“The owner recently passed away and the property has transferred to the beneficiaries,” the report said.
“The owners contacted council indicating their interest in selling the property to council.”
Following an independent valuation, the council made an offer, which was accepted.
The price was not disclosed.
