A teenager whose father has been jailed for 33 years for the drunken murder of his mother has declared that "justice has been served".
Stephen James Boyd was today jailed for 33 years for killing his wife Tina Kontozis at Bundeena on April 24 2016.
His son Daniel Boyd, 19, praised the decision outside of court.
"Domestic violence must not be tolerated at any level and we must, as a community, do everything we can to stop it," Daniel, 19, told media on the steps of the NSW Supreme Court on Friday morning.
"I believe justice has been served."
Stephen Boyd, whom Daniel previously described as an "evil narcissist", will serve at least 25½ years in prison for bashing and stabbing his partner to death in a prolonged, savage attack in their Bundeena home.
The jail term includes convictions for attacking Daniel and driving dangerously during a high-speed pursuit.
Boyd, 53, pleaded guilty last August to murdering Ms Kontozis, 51, a childcare worker. He sat in the dock today with his head down as Supreme Court Justice Julia Lonergan handed down the sentence.
In her lengthy remarks before the packed court, Justice Lonergan described the killing as "senseless, brutal and appalling".
"There were numerous stab wounds involving the face and both sides of the neck,” Justice Lonergan said.
"The tip of Tina's right ring finger was cut off," Justice Lonergan said, describing the attack in graphic detail.
Three bloodied knives and two broken pieces of wood were found in the home following the attack.
"This was an offence of very substantial gravity committed by the offender, involving extensive violence, and he was the long-term partner of Tina Kontozis, and it was committed in her home.”
At the time of Ms Kontozis' death, an apprehended violence order was out against Boyd, which related to a conviction for an assault against her and Daniel in 2015.
In a victim impact statement read out during a sentencing submissions hearing last year, Daniel described his father as an "evil narcissist" who was never a role model to him.
"Mum loved to dance, she loved the beach and she loved to laugh," he said.
"Rest in peace, Mum, I love you and miss you, you will forever be in my heart.”
While on remand after being charged with the murder, Boyd had written to the family, saying: "I believe the police should not have been called and should not have got involved in our family arguments."
Justice Lonergan said this was evidence of Boyd's "lack of remorse and his despicable attempt" to deflect blame.
The court heard Boyd, who had a daily alcohol habit involving bourbon and champagne, had been drinking with a friend at Ms Kontozis' home the day before the murder, and when she confronted him about damage done to the property, he snapped.
"Daniel heard Tina screaming as he ran towards the home and he called out, 'Mum,' " Justice Lonergan said.
Boyd tried to stop his son from reaching his dying mother, eventually knocking him briefly unconscious.
He bought more bourbon after committing the grisly act.
Boyd was arrested a day later after crashing during a high-speed pursuit with police, who tried to intercept him after he was seen in Goulburn.
