A school-based healthy eating program linked to one of the world’s most famous chefs is cooking up a storm in Sutherland Shire classrooms.
Jamie Oliver’s Learn Your Fruit and Veg program was launched at Waterfall Public School this month.
The program, which aims to fight obesity in children, has the mission of getting kids excited about fresh food by teaching them simple to follow and quick to prepare recipes using Jamie Oliver’s signature cooking tips.
It is an initiative being delivered by The Good Foundation, which strives to put the fun back into fresh food and change the eating habits of children nationwide.
Research commissioned by The Good Foundation revealed that the majority (71 per cent) of Australian kids aged 3-17 were not getting the recommended daily intake of fruit and vegetables.
As part of the program, children tuck into healthy practices in the kitchen by using their senses to engage with food. Touching, tasting and smelling fruits and vegetables makes for an interactive class.
