Update
The first images have emerged from inside the Hungry Jacks restaurant at Heathcote which was engulfed by fire yesterday.
Fire and Rescue NSW shared the images late yesterday on its Facebook page, which show the kitchen destroyed by the fire and the ceiling partially collapsed.
Fire and Rescue NSW said crews that arrived on the scene had limited access due to the partial ceiling collapse, but were able to contain the fire to the area of origin just after 12.30pm.
The remainder of the restaurant suffered varying degrees of smoke, heat, and water damage, according to Fire and Rescue NSW.
It is not known when the restaurant will reopen.
Update
A fire that started in the kitchen of the Hungry Jacks restaurant at Heathcote is now under control.
A Fire and Rescue NSW spokesman said three fire crews remain on the scene at noon today to extinguish the last of the blaze, which caused part of the roof to collapse.
Five fire crews from Engadine, Miranda, Sutherland, Menai and Kogarah, including an aerial pumper and ladder platform, raced to the scene after the fire broke out shortly before 10.43am today, the spokesman said.
He said three staff and five customers managed to flee the building before firefighters arrived and were uninjured.
A NSW Ambulance spokesman said paramedics and a special operation team attended the scene but there were no reported injuries.
The restaurant suffered extensive damage and "would not be reopening any time soon", according to the Fire and Rescue NSW spokesman.
Helen Lupton, of Yarrawarrah, was waiting at the counter with her husband Martin when the fire broke out.
"We were just about to get served when the fryer caught fire," she said.
"We could see the fire from where we were standing.
"There were a few workers in there. They got the fire blanket and tried to control it with that but it just wasn't working. [The flames] were coming up the sides of the blanket and that is when they told us to evacuate."
Mrs Lupton said the staff were very professional during the ordeal.
"They were really calm. They did not panic at all," she said.
Mrs Lupton said they pop into the restaurant about once a week for breakfast.
