Kristy Bell has lifted spirits in tough times by coming up with an idea to provide the elderly and vulnerable with a basic necessity that has been hard to get during coronavirus panic buying.
The Grays Point mother of two launched the Spare A Roll quest with a call out for donations of toilet paper.
There are eight drop-off points in the shire, mostly pharmacies, which arrange distribution to customers.
Ms Bell started The Volunteer Hub to help injured wildlife during the bushfire crisis and decided to branch out after a visit to Rodneys Terry White Pharmacy in North West Arm Road, Gymea.
"They told me they had 30-50 needy customers on a waiting list for toilet paper," she said.
"One of the staff went out before work to try and buy supplies and felt bad she couldn't find any, while another chased a customer with three children to offer some of her own supply.
"I used my platform to reach out to my local community in Grays Point and within four hours, Rodneys not only had enough but told me the generosity had completely lifted their spirits.
"So, I decided to see if anyone else wanted to participate and the whole thing grew from there.
"The toilet rolls are only for people in genuine need and there are strict hygiene rules on handling. Rolls are left for at least three days before they go out."
Pharmacist Rodney Metlege said the response had been really good.
"Some people come in and leave one or two rolls, while others will drop off a whole pack," he said.
"We have received about 200 rolls and most have been delivered.
"We already had a service where customers can call us and use their credit card to purchase items and our delivery people drop off in the afternoon, so distributing the free toilet paper was quite simple."
Drop-off points for toilet paper rolls include Rodneys Pharmacy, Kirrawee Pharmacy, Gymea Pharmacy, Orana at Sutherland, Blooms the Chemist at Cronulla (Toni & Guy have closed their salon), Como Pharmacy, Healthsave Box Village Pharmacy, Sylvania, and Agapy Pharmacy, Sylvania.
