Steve Folkes has announced he will leave the coaching staff at Wests Tigers at the end of the season and join up with St George Illawarra on a two-year deal.
Folkes was the high performance manager under coach Tim Sheens at the Tigers, and will be assistant coach to Steve Price at the Dragons. Price will take over from the departing Wayne Bennett.
"Steve Folkes is an experienced coach and quality individual whose skills and experience will complement our programs in 2012 and beyond," said Dragons chief executive Peter Doust. "Steve will make a significant contribution to our organisation and we look forward to him joining us in November."
Folkes, who coached Canterbury to win the premiership in 2004, said he had greatly appreciated the opportunity the Tigers gave him, adding: "I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at a great club. I have very much enjoyed working with great coaches Tim Sheens and Peter Gentle, their support staff and the players. I have learned a great deal."
Sheens said Folkes had been a tremendous help to him and that the Tigers wished him all the best.
