OSCAR the schnoodle has a job he loves — visiting people in hospitals, group homes and nursing homes. His happiness is infectious as he visits sick, elderly and lonely people as part of the Delta Society's therapy teams.
His owner, Antoniette O'Sullivan, said Oscar loved being out and about and meeting new people. "He seems to be able to accommodate whatever [they] need" she said.
Mrs O'Sullivan said one girl at the Sutherland group home was stressed after returning from college each day, so Oscar curled up in bed with her for 30 minutes.
She said it was a "win-win" situation as Oscar loved it and the client loved it, and she loved seeing the joy her faithful hound brought.
"It is just an hour fortnightly or weekly and it is so easy to give back to the community," Mrs O'Sullivan said. "No breed is turned away as they assess each dog."
The society's therapy dogs program visits hospitals and other facilities in Australia. The society urgently needs more volunteers and dogs to visit Sutherland Shire institutions.
