St Catherine Laboure Gymea pupils brought smiles to the faces of Gymea Bay Nursing Home residents when they visited last week as an early Mother’s Day treat.
There was singing, dancing, performances of musical numbers and students also distributed gifts they had made. Male residents were not forgotten either - they received gifts of chocolate.
The ABS put together some statistics on mums in the lead-up to Mother’s Day, finding the median age of mothers who registered a birth in 2011 was 30.6 years, up from 30.0 years in 2001.
Australia women could expect to have 1.9 children, and the number of multiple births has increased consistently since the 1970s. In 2011, 4,560 pregnancies resulted in multiple births and of these, 62 were triplets or higher order multiples.
