AS THIS edition of the Leader was going to press, Holly Greenstein, who grew up in Alfords Point, was arriving in Los Angeles eager to begin working in a supporting lead role on a new movie project which she described as "a major sci-fi film".
"It is," she said, "a kind of a cross between Avatar and Star Wars but I can't release any other details or the title because of its pre-production status and for legal reasons, because ideas can be stolen."
Holly, who went to primary school at Alfords Point followed by Menai High School, earned a bachelor of communications degree at the University of Western Sydney and said she has had "a love of acting and drama for as long as I can remember".
But as well as acting she "fell in love with the technicalities of acting specifically for the camera".
"It's not an easy career but there is nothing else I wish to do with my life," she said.
"I firmly believe if you do what you love for a living you never work a day in your life."
Holly is hoping for special access for working in the US.
"I currently have an application in for a special visa for 'talented people in specific chosen fields', so while waiting for that to go through I was able to start auditioning for projects and to solidify my involvement with the film industry."
This is Holly's second visit to Los Angeles after spending three months there last year, signing with a manager.
"I also sent a lot of audition tapes over to casting directors in the pilot season; however, I am hoping it will be a much easier ride with a working visa."
