BASKETBALLERS who want to know what it takes to play at the top have the opportunity to learn from a team of coaches who are former professional players.
Hoop Dreams is a camp for "ambitious" young players already in rep or state league teams who want to take their ability to the next level and learn from coaches who have already been there.
Coaches include former NBL player BJ Carter, Olympian Glen Saville, former NBL player Guy Brandon and Sutherland senior coach Peter Rayner.
Hoop Dreams is organised by event management company Trigger Sparks.
Director Morgan McCarthy said they wanted to create the specialised camp after he and BJ Carter realised there was a real lack of personalised development camps.
"We noticed that young players who reached the elite level were shocked at what's required," McCarthy said.
"This camp is designed to help the process and prepare them for the mental and physical expectations.
"We think this will be the first basketball camp in this format — as an all-inclusive program covering psychological skills, fitness and nutrition."
McCarthy said they had run development camps before but nothing like this.
"It was not until players reached the AIS that they had access to the specialised areas of the sports," he said.
"In Hoop Dreams the players will go through fitness and skill intensity challenges, psychology training such as motivation skills and mental attitudes, and receive nutritional advice.
"At the end of the camp players will receive a personal evaluation and advice for what is needed to take it to the next level."
