MADELINE Tynan will host an event at the family's Miranda business premises to mark National Family Business Day on September 19.
Mrs Tynan, marketing director at Tynans Motors, has been a member of Family Business Australia, which organises the annual family business celebration, for many years.
"They run development days, directorship courses, second generation-third generation groups," she said.
"They talk over the pros and cons of what happens with family business, create longevity for family business, how to do succession planning. Networking is a big thing, too."
Mrs Tynan said she enjoyed networking with other family companies that face the same challenges.
"You don't realise how many family businesses are in the local area," she said. "We're trying to encourage a local sector; many people from St George and Sutherland Shire don't know it exists."
National Family Business Day was all about celebrating the success of those types of businesses, she said.
