SUTHERLAND Shire-based Tynan Motors has been inducted into the Family Business Australia Hall of Fame.
FBA chief executive Philippa Taylor said Tynan Motors exemplified the family business spirit and long-term contribution to the state’s economy, community and culture.
Dealer principal Madeline Tynan said winning the award was a huge honour, especially as they were inducted the same time as well-loved business Akubra hats.
The business was started by Madeline’s father Michael 48 years ago and employs three generations of the family.
‘‘They [the children] can work at the company as long as they’ve got some sort of educational qualification,’’ she said. ‘‘It has changed from Dad’s era and these days I think you have to have it.’’
Her sons Nicholas and Samuel both studied commerce and now work at Tynan Motors, she said.
‘‘They’ve earned the right to be here and started by washing cars.’’
Her other children left the business to further their careers.
‘‘We wouldn’t be where we are if we didn’t have Mum and Dad — my parents have taught us how to work hard and succeed,’’ she said.
Her mother Annette is not involved in the day-to-day running of company, but runs her own cattle breeding business in Wagga Wagga.
‘‘Dad’s still on the board of NRMA and working long hours but he enjoys what he’s doing.’’
